Local Attractions

There are so many things to do while visiting Ocean Front Shanties –  there is a kids play area, nightly campfires and more right on site.  In the local area there are several festivals, events and points of interest.  Larry and Lois are very familiar with the area and would be more than happy to assist you in planning your perfect vacation.

Outdoor and Adventure


Arisaig Provincial Park, Arisaig Village

Settlement in the Arisaid area in 1791 marked the beginning of the Scottish Highland immigration to the Antigonish district. The area is known for its 4 million year-old fossils and numerous other natural features. Visit the Provincial Day Park which boast Picnic Area and several short walking trails.



Antigonish County and surroundings has plenty of great beaches including Cribbon’s, Mahoney’s, Malignant Cove, and Pomquet.


Cape George Hiking Trails

Panoramic views from over 550 feet above the shore on 33 km of well maintained trails. The trail has varying degrees of difficulty. An extensive series of loops & linear sections; which meander from the shoreline to coastal hills, valleys and deep into old growth forest.


Cape George Point “Lighthouse” Day Park

The basis of Robert Munsch’s book “Lighthouse – A store of Remembrance”, you can enjoy an amazing view of PEI and Cape Breton from the cliffs. Sheltered picnic tables and washroom facilities are available.


The Fairmont Ridge Hiking Trail

This hiking trail appeals to both the novice & experienced hiker. Discover 12km of well-marked stacked loops which will lead you through varied terrain, old growth forests, beaver ponds and many scenic look-offs.


Steven’s Bluefin Tuna Charters

Located in North-Eastern Nova Scotia, Steven’s Bluefin Tuna Charters is perfectly positioned to fish some of the largest bluefin tuna to be found in the world. We offer an array of services from Tuna Charters to Scenic Tours, from Whale Watching to Mackerel Fishing.




Antigonish Arena

Home to the Antigonish Junior ‘A’ Bull Dogs and well as other events such as Burmac.


Antigonish Highland Games

The Antigonish Highland Games are the oldest continuous highland games outside of Scotland. First held in 1863, this early July tradition welcomes visitors and participants from around the globe.


Antigonish Golf and Country Club

A par 72, 6109 yard course with a 125 and 118 slope rating, respectively. The club welcomes green fee players.


Dooly’s Billiard Hall

If you’re in the mood to shoot some pool, go to Dooly’s new location in Antigonish right across to Piper’s Pub.


Fiddler’s Green Golf Course

An organic golf course located on Antigonish Harbour with an ocean view from all 9 holes.

Pin’s Bowling

The only bowling joint in town and has a liquor license.


St. Francis Xavier Recreational Complex (Oland Centre and KMC)

The university has great recreational facilities, including swimming pool, gym, dance studio, racquetball and squash, and two basketball courts. As well, these facilities host all St. FX games.

Mother Webb’s Steakhouse

Antigonish restaurants have been lead by Mother Webbs for 43 years. Located on the trans canada highway, opened daily from 11am till 11pm.


Piper’s Pub

Piper’s Pub offers a great menu along with a full service bar. Each night of the week has a different attraction, such as Jazz Monday and Open Mic Wings Wednesday.

Antigonish Heritage Museum

Antigonish Heritage museum is a community museum that strives to preserve and promote a cultural understanding of the heritage of Antigonish Town and County. Housed in the former CN Rail Station building, it is located at 20 East Main Street in the Town of Antigonish.
